Collaboration in action:

Drafting a National Dental Prevention Policy

for Armenia

   Smiling girl

The Dental Health session at AMWC2025 included a roundtable discussion to develop a national dental health model.  The planning committee met online regularly for several months leading up to the Madrid Congress, a collaboration spanning from California to Yerevan.  We are gearing up for the 7IMCA in 2027.

Dental disease is considered "a neglected epidemic" and may be related to so many other diseases like heart disease and diabetes.

We are proposing a national dental prevention program for Armenia, beginning with young children. Part of the discussion includes dental prevention measures (fluoride varnishes and dental sealants) in the schools in addition to those that could be performed by pediatricians especially for preschool children such as topical fluoride varnishes, a preventive measure. We anticipate compilation of a formal proposal to address education of children and their caretakers, school programs and "more drastic" measures like salt fluoridation and a sugar tax.  Stay tuned for further discussions between now and the 7th IMCA in 2027.

 Translation for international conferences

We've enjoyed live translation at the previous Int'l Medical Congresses of Armenia.  However, the service is expensive, limited to Armenian-English-Russian, equipment-intensive and not available for breakout sessions.  Here are some alternatives:

We used Wordly.ai to provide translation assistance at AMWC2025.

This includes AI-generated voice transcription and translation

into multiple languages in real time using Wordly.ai

If you used Wordly during AMWC2025, we'd love to know your experience with it.

Another option for small groups is Polyglotte.am,which allows

written translation between up to 4 languages. The Demo version

is easy to use. See the Polyglotte page at https://amicnow.org/248

(public service announcement)

PAY ATTENTION TO COPYRIGHT WHEN USING ONLINE IMAGES IN YOUR WEBSITES

Our local SF organization was contacted regarding images of the evacuation from Artsakh used on our association website earlier this year.  PicRights International Inc contacted us via snail mail on behalf of Reuters and demanded payment of $700.  Removing the images from the website was not sufficient.  They lowered the charge by 30% to $490 after we explained how it happened.  Had we defaulted, we might have ended up on the losing side of a court case with the associated legal fees.

While I wish this could have ended differently, I consider the amount not excessive, for an education in intellectual property, and ultimately for supporting journalists who traveled to a hostile zone to capture those images

The Armenian Medical International Committee (AMIC) exists as a coordinating umbrella for various Armenian medical associations located throughout the world. We aim to encourage cooperation and reduce duplication of efforts.

To this end, we maintain this database of Armenian healthcare providers and a directory of healthcare related projects serving Armenian communities.

          * this database is searchable by typing into the search bar at the top of the page.
For example, searching "ortho" will find all the posted articles containing the string "ortho" (like orthopedic, orthodontics, orthomolecular etc.)

Specific search terms (like your name, your pet's name) can be added as metadata
to help quickly find the pages for your own project.
